While at SHS, Jake was most involved in music, particularly the marching and concert bands. Graduating in 2009. Jake looks back on his time in the SHS music program.

"I am very grateful forit, cherish those memories, and would encourage other students to try music."

Jake took a break after high school and entered the workforce for a few years. In 2012, he started attending Everett Community College while continuing to work and was able to pay for tuition out of pocket. Upon earning an associates degree, he transferred to Western Washington University, where he graduated in 2018 with BS in Physics, minoring in Math and Astronomy.

Paths change.

"Initially upon entering higher education I wanted to get into teaching high school science or math. While earning my degree, my goal shifted to a career in astrophysics. While I did end up performing some undergraduate research and even got a peer-reviewed paper published in a scientific journal, I ultimately decided against pursuing that path, and have worked at Philips as an Ultrasound Measurement Engineer since 2018."

Jake currently lives in Everett with his partner of 8 years, along with a dog and cat.

His hobby is an ecological restoration project in his back yard.

He advises SHS students to consider the Running Start program, and community college in general.

"For students facing cost barriers, community college makes higher education far more attainable than it otherwise might be. Stay curious and keep learning as a lifelong endeavour, no matter your career choice."
