Mykayla Yankey

Updated: Feb 20

Meet Mykayla Yankey, a resilient individual whose journey from overcoming obstacles to thriving in her career and family life serves as an inspiration to all young Turks. Mykayla graduated from high school in 2015 and has since embarked on a remarkable path of personal and professional growth.

After high school, Mykayla pursued her education at Grays Harbor College, where she earned an Associate of Arts degree in Human Services, specializing in Chemical Dependency. She then continued her studies to obtain a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Organizational Management. Mykayla's educational journey enabled her to carve out a fulfilling career in the human services field.

Mykayla's career has been marked by her dedication to helping others, particularly young people facing substance abuse challenges. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, she worked as a substance abuse counselor in a middle school in Grays Harbor County. In this role, she provided crucial support and guidance to students, offering prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services. Mykayla's commitment to making a positive impact extended beyond the school walls as she collaborated with community coalitions to promote healthy lifestyles and prevent substance abuse among youth, adults, and families.

Despite facing challenges during her high school years, Mykayla persevered and graduated in 2015 after making the decision to return to school and commit to healthier choices. Reflecting on her experience, she acknowledges the importance of pro-social activities and regrets not being more involved in extracurriculars. Mykayla encourages young Turks to persevere, treat others with kindness, prioritize healthy communication, and understand that their trauma does not define them.

Currently residing in Montesano, WA, Mykayla is happily married to Evan Yankey, with whom she has been together for 10 years and married for 8 years. They are licensed foster parents and welcomed their son, Layne, in August 2022 after fostering for two years. Mykayla and Evan prioritize family time and enjoy being spontaneous, traveling, and camping together throughout the year, regardless of the weather.

Mykayla's story is a testament to the power of resilience, perseverance, and prioritizing what truly matters in life. Her journey serves as a reminder that with determination and support, one can overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams while making a positive impact on others.
